Concept
I have been playing games my whole life. From the time we got our first NES about twenty years ago, I don’t think a day has gone by where if I had access to some kind of game, I didn’t want to play it. That doesn’t make me super awesome or anything, but it has given me a perspective and an experience that is worth acknowledging.
This blog is an old-school gamer’s take on games. Back then, it was all about plot and game play and replayability because games didn’t have those extra wow factors like 3-D rendered cut scenes and special effects. Also, the memory of an NES cartridge did not allow for the complexity of a 50-hour RPG, and if it did, it wasn’t a compelling game because 40 of those hours were spent leveling instead of advancing the plot.
The best thing to happen to gaming since my adulthood has been the Wii Virtual Console. I’ve been able to revisit my favorite games as well as discover new games that I didn’t have the console to play at the time. These are notably the N64 titles Majora’s mask, Star Fox 64, and Mario 64. That being said, I will not only be focusing on old school games, but you may see a trend that the games I choose to buy have some tie to my gaming roots.
This blog will be another perspective on how to rate games and talk about them with the honor and respect that games deserve – or don’t deserve.
